Mirante da Janela
Mirante da Janela (Chapada dos Veadeiros)
For travelers seeking breathtaking views and the perfect photo, the Mirante da Janela (Window Viewpoint) is one of the most iconic spots in Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. At the top of a mountain, massive rock formations create a natural “window” overlooking a dramatic 120-meter waterfall. During the rainy season, the trail also includes a stop at the seasonal Abismo Waterfall.

The Trail
The hike to the viewpoint is about 8 km round-trip with both easy and challenging stretches. The trail begins near São Jorge village, at a place called "UFO Airport", which has parking available. The most difficult section is after the turn-off to Abismo Waterfall, where the trail becomes steeper and more physically demanding.
Although the trail is marked, it's easy to get lost, so hiring a local guide is highly recommended — especially for beginners. If hiking alone, use GPS trail apps (like Wikiloc) and consider following other groups when possible.
The Viewpoint
Once you reach the top, be ready to wait your turn for a photo at the iconic “window” — there's only one, and many want that perfect shot. If you’d rather avoid the wait, continue a bit further up to a higher viewpoint with a stunning panoramic view, even without the window framing.
Abismo Waterfall
Along the way, you’ll pass Abismo Waterfall, a 20-meter seasonal fall that only flows between October and April, the region's rainy season. It features a shallow pool and overlooks a beautiful valley.

An Unforgettable View
Mirante da Janela offers a 360º view of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, showcasing the native cerrado landscape, two major waterfalls, and an endless blue sky — with no human structures in sight. At the top, a rustic wooden structure offers a spot to rest and admire the scenery — ideal at sunrise, sunset, or under the stars.
